19A shouldn’t be tampered with – TNA

The TNA said they are not in favour of repealing the 19th Amendment, to make way for the adoption of the 20th Amendment.

But the pro Sinhale President has appointed his friend Rear Admiral (Retd) Sarath Weerasekera as the State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Affairs who said that he has been against the Provincial Councils right from the beginning and there is no change of that standpoint.

Prime Minister Mahinda who never keeps his promises had supported the appointment. Mahinda is famous for his 13+ promise which he never did when he was in full power.

TNA Leader and Parliamentarian, R. Sampanthan, has stated the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna regime should not tamper with the 19th Amendment under any circumstances.

He had mentioned that following the adoption of the 19th Amendment, the country had begun to traverse on the path to true democracy.

He had observed that during the 52-day rule of the short-lived coup instigated by the Government, the Supreme Court had delivered a judgment which all lawmakers should abide by.

He has warned that tampering with the Constitution to suit the whims and fancies of the Government of the day could lead to severe consequences to the people and the Nation.

Sampanthan had averred the TNA will always support the formulation of a fresh Constitution aimed at resolving the national issue and steering the Nation on the path to prosperity.
