MP Chandima Weerakkody from Galle district has requested the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party leadership to solve the party’s internal conflicts spawned due to its twisted agenda of serving members, according to Lanka C News belonging to Wimal Weerawansa.
MP Weerakkody stressed that because he helped establishing the national government together with the United National Party (UNP) he is being discriminated within the party.
Chandima Weerakkody was a Minister of the Good Governance and joined the Joint Opposition after the no confidence motion in 2018, as a 15 Group member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
However, media reports in July claimed that MP Ramesh Pathirana heavily objected to Chandima Weerakkody joining the Galle district electorate affairs of the SLPP and said that he can only be joined if he publically fall down in his knees and confess before Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa at a party meeting in Galle.
If this is the way MPs who joined the SLPP in 2018 are being treated, it is only presumable that how those who are looking forward to join in the wake of the presidential election will be treated. Therefore, it seems that the SLPP organizers will inevitably defeat the SLFP MPs who wish to join the SLPP in order to secure their seats in the next election.
