Representatives of Sri Lankan Tamils met BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan and other senior party leaders like Pon Radhakrishnan, L Ganeshan and Vanathi Srinivasan to discuss the prevailing situation in the island nation and the welfare and housing schemes implemented by the Narendra Modi government for the Lankan Tamils.
The meeting was held at the party state headquarters.
Tamilisai told reporters that the party leaders had discussed various issues and programmes with the representatives of Sri Lankan Tamils.
“We will prepare a report and submit the same to the Centre,” she said. However, she refused to elaborate further.
Party sources said the Easter terror attack in island nation and involvement of Muslims in it was one of the topics they had discussed in detail.
On law minister C Ve Shanmugam’s statement on Tuesday that the Tamil Nadu government had the rights to initiate legal action against any firm trying to implement hydrocarbon projects without state’s approval, Tamilisai said that the Centre and State governments had been implementing several welfare and development schemes. “The Centre is not implementing any scheme without the approval of the state government,” she said.
She said the party would conduct a conference on hydrocarbon project on July 20. Experts would take part in discussions. “We will submit a report based on the outcome of the conference. It will reflect both the positive and negative aspects of the project,” she said and added that they would also have a similar programme to discuss the New Education Policy.
