(Lanka e News -10.Sep.2018, 7.15PM) The Media of the South which wants to form a Sinhala Buddhist government made a sacrifice of her and a scapegoat while there are politicians in this country who made much worse announcements threatening national security than she , minister of women’s affairs Vijayakala Maheswaran bemoaned. The minister made these comments when she was asked why she made the statement which was alleged as ‘anti- state’ at a function in Jaffna, and about the instructions given by the attorney general to the IGP to file legal action against her.
The AG has given instructions to take action against Ms. Maheswaran’s statement made in connection with the LTTE under the Penal code. The media revealed that the AG had requested to take action under section 120 of the Penal code , and the police have still not decided whether to arrest the M.P or a case shall be filed directly, according to what police revealed. Section 120 of the Penal code an ancient Act referred to by the AG states thus …
Exciting or attempting lo excite disaffection…
120. Whoever by words, either spoken or intended to be read, or by signs; or by visible representations, or otherwise, excites or attempts to excite feelings of disaffection to the President or to the Government of the Republic, or excites or attempts to excite hatred to or contempt of the administration of justice, or excites or attempts to excite the People of Sri Lanka to procure, otherwise than by lawful means, the alteration of any matter by law established, or attempts to raise discontent or disaffection amongst the People of Sri Lanka, or to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different classes of such People, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years.
Vijayakala M.P. speaking further said , she getting an opportunity to state what she truly told , at least in court is the only straw she has. Until that time arrives she will be remaining silent , she added.
No sooner it was reported a case is to be filed against the M.P. than the media of the South requested a media discussion from her to draw her response. The M.P. however rejecting all those requests said , she doesn’t want to drive herself into further unnecessary problems at this juncture.
‘It was the media of the South that drove me into this situation. All what the media is desiring is to install a Sinhala Buddhist government in the south. It has become natural for the media to sacrifice the individual it wants to and make her a prey , to achieve its goal.
Hence in such circumstances if I am to make another statement to the media , that may make the issue more complicated . If I am to express a new idea , it will be what I told earlier that will have to be repeated . That will create a more dangerous situation. Therefore this is not the time to convene a media discussion,’ Vishwakala pin pointed .
