Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran has called on the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to take a stand on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, which would be beneficial for the Tamil people.
Speaking on the NCM, Wigneswaran said that the TNA’s decisions pertaining to the no-confidence motion should be …focused on getting some benefits to the Tamil people. He pointed out that so far the Government had failed on most of its promises pertaining to several aspects including the internally-displaced persons, the release of prisoners detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, and the reduction of the military presence in the North.
He said that the several politicians belonging to the minority community had placed their demands when Governments are facing crunch situations. “In today’s political platform, the difficulties faced by the politicians of the majority community are a boon for the minority politicians. We should use these opportunities,” he said. He further pointed out that the demands should be made in consultation with the people. “One or two politicians should make these demands and reach agreements on behalf of the Tamil people. The views of the Tamil people should be identified,” he said.
